“The New Testament knows nothing of solitary religion.” Or so said John Wesley the father of the Methodist church. I think he’s right. The church is called to be a community that does life together who love one another, serve one another, forgive one another, bear one another burdens, encourage one another and spur each other to do good. It’s not a perfect community, but it’s a community that is built in and through Jesus. It’s a community that’s called to be free from prejudice and socio-economic divide, a community where people from various ethnicities can cross ethnic barriers and have close friends from other cultures. We want to be like a large extended family in which there is always room for one more.
Two ways you can connect into the life of the church is through relationship and responsibilities.
Relationship – A variety of small groups, social events, hospitality, prayer communities, and going out of your way to be friendly and intentionally build friendships.
Responsibilities – You hook into community through serving, it’s a good way to rub shoulders with others. There are plenty of ways to serve; look for opportunities in our church newsletter or simply ask at the office.
